Spencer Sweeney was born in 1973 in Philadelphia. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and now lives and works in New York City.

Musician, DJ and club owner, Spencer Sweeney became known as an artist for his oil paintings where bright swatches of colours are applied on the canvas in bold brushstrokes evoking the disordered nightlife of New York where Sweeney made his name. Influenced by street art and the punk movement of the 80's, his paintings become an integral part of his multi-facetted cultural contribution.

Spencer Sweeney was exhibited widely including at MoMA PS1, the Whitney Biennale, Gavin Brown's Enterprise New York, the Modern Institute Glasgow, High Museum of Art Atlanta and Contemporary Fine Arts Berlin.
